Have your say on the Final Stone in the Thackley Sculpture Trail!

20 July 2011

Artworks have been working with the local community to create a sculpture trail within Buck Wood, Thackley which reflects their community and heritage.

On Thursday, 28th July, Artworks Creative Communities would like to invite members of the Thackley community to meet and work with creative writer Irene Lofthouse to explore thoughts and ideas of the local history and heritage of Thackley to help influence the design of the final sculpture in the Buck Wood Sculpture Trail which will be situated in the new Thackley Community Garden, opposite the cricket club on the corner of Ainsbury Avenue..
All members of the local community are welcome to this friendly and informal session.
The session, beginning at 7pm ending at 9pm, will give participants the opportunity to see the existing stone carvings from the Trail, learn more about the Project, find out more about the Friends of Buck Wood and the local history of Thackley.
Light refreshments will be available.
The session will take place at Thackley Cricket Club, Birkhill Farm, Ainsbury Avenue, Bradford BD10 0TL.
The previous carvings on the Trail were interpreted by local sculptor Ian Taylor from ideas formed at design sessions with the friends of Buck Wood, pupils from C of E School and Immanuel College
“Artworks has had great fun being involved in this project and the finished stone-carvings look brilliant, but they are only a small part of the story. The range of groups that we have worked with means that it has been a great example of how the whole community can be involved in creating some amazing work which we hope will be enjoyed by many people as they discover Buck Wood.
It’s great that Thackley Urban Village and Bradford Council got behind the project and helped us to make something really interesting and exciting happen.”
